In The Beginning

It all started with the Couch to 5k program. Simple enough right? Here we were out of shape, 100 lbs over weight, and no clue where to start. We had tried running before, but always given up. This time was different! We had a goal! The Mayfaire 5k! Its a race that is growing every year in popularity. We also signed up for the Warrior Dash. They say that when you sign up for a race you become an Athlete and that idea has become something we hold onto. We signed up for our race, paid the entry fee, and got to work. When you have a goal, a dead line, and put your money where your mouth is (quite literally with the race entry fee) something amazing happens... YOU step up and do it!

With our first race fast approaching we are 6 weeks into our training and things have never looked brighter! We're both losing weight, running faster, and happier than imaginable; but whats more is that we are ATHLETES! We have goals, dedication, and motivation!

  1. Wow! I tried a 10k run once with minimal training and by golly, it was hard. 5k shouldn't be too bad though. Good luck! :D

  2. I always thought runners signed up for those things because they were already great and had a passion for running.

Nice approach, I guess I never thought of it that way.

I wish you luck and update us on how it goes!

  5. I'm too heavy for long distance running, my natural build is for sprinting.. but the principles stay the same i guess

  7. One of my exes tried the couch to 5k. I think she lasted two weeks? I personally want to get into barefoot running with Vibram Five Fingers. The way ancient Mexicans did it, sandals and a robe!
